Sweet Potato Chip Recipe

If you don't love sweet potatoes, I am not sure we can be friends. Here at pretty nourished, Pretty does sweet potatoes and as often as possible.


Do you have GI issues? Well, sweet potatoes are your new best friend. Among all popular "diets" out there, sweet potatoes are welcomed in almost all of them.

Paleo, check, vegan, check, vegetarian, check, mediterranean, yep, Gluten free? check.


Sweet potatoes contain compounds called phytochelatins that can bind to heavy metals such as lead, mercury, copper, & cadmium and safely remove them through the body.




Sweet potatoes may help maintain a healthy blood pressure and protect against cancer.

  • The high fiber content of sweet potatoes helps prevent constipation.

  • One medium, baked sweet potato with skin contains just 103 calories.

  • Although there is much confusion, sweet potatoes are not related to yams.

  • High in vitamin A, vitamin B-6, Iron, magnesium and potassium.

Do you have celiac, crohns disease, IBS or ulcerative colitis? Well have you heard one of the latest health buzz words prebiotics?


Sweet Tasting vegetables like baked sweet potatoes, beets, yams and parsnips also feed sugar to the good bacteria and yeast but they also feed pathogenic yeast and parasites. If we can balance out taking in the good feeding goodies while also populating the bad ones with probiotics, our gut should be in pretty good shape.


Sweet Potatoes are one of the best anti-cancer foods and can particularly help to prevent breast, colon, lung, skin, and oral cancers. Sweet potatoes are known for being easy to digest and are very good for ulcers, inflamed colons, digestive disorders, and constipation.


Not all sweet potato dishes can be created equal however. Adding processed oils and sugar will dramatically turn your health food into a serious cheat meal. Especially when cooking or working with starchy vegetables, the amount of fat added is really important. For digestion and absorption small amounts of added fat is ok, but do your best to keep that particular starchy goodness, just that, simple.


Sweet Potato Chips

Ingredients

2 large sweet potatoes 2 teaspoons coconut oil (optional) ¼ teaspoon sea salt ¼ teaspoon garlic powder ¼ teaspoon cumin ¼ teaspoon paprika ¼ teaspoon chili powder ⅛ teaspoon cayenne (optional)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 250°F. Slice the sweet potatoes into very thin slices approximately, or very thin strips resembling french fries. Place the sweet potato slices into the boiling water and return to a simmer over medium heat. Boil potatoes until they are soft, drain water.

Combine the sea salt, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, chili powder, poultry seasoning, and cayenne in a small bowl. Lightly grease two baking trays with coconut oil or use nonstick paper. Arrange the sweet potato slices on the trays so that they are not overlapping. Add your spices.

Bake the sweet potatoes until desired crispyness ( usually about 25-30 minutes depending on your oven.) Flip chips or fries as desired.
